Ahead of the Udinese-Roma match, scheduled for February 2nd at 8:45 PM, Udine Prefect Domenico Lione has officially closed the away section.
The measure doesn’t stop there: ticket sales in all sections of the stadium have been banned for all residents of the Lazio region.
This decision is part of the security measures adopted to prevent public order risks.
The closure stems from clashes between Roma and Fiorentina supporters that occurred on January 18th along the A1 motorway.
Following those incidents, the Ministry of the Interior ordered a total ban on away matches for both teams until the end of the season.
This decision was dictated by the two sets of supporters’ history, both in Italy and abroad, and by the need to stem an escalation of violence that had not been stemmed by previous individual measures.
Gasperini’s team thus faces a long period without the support of their fans away from the Olimpico, starting with the away match in Udine.
