Roma offer Bailey to Benfica in attempt to free up roster space

In the complex landscape of Roma’s outgoing transfer market, aimed at reducing their salary cap to finance the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee, the focus has shifted to Leon Bailey.

The Jamaican winger, who arrived on loan as a “long-awaited signing” for their attacking lineup, has so far proven to be a real mystery in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, partly due to physical issues that have limited his use.

After months of mixed performances and a lack of impact on the pitch, management has placed Bailey on the list of players to be released to free up space and financial resources.

Roma attempted to offer the winger to Benfica, but the Portuguese club refused.

Benfica’s refusal complicates Frederic Massara’s plans, as he is now tasked with finding a new destination for Bailey.

His departure is crucial not only to reduce the wage bill but also to revitalize the attacking line, which, with just fifteen goals scored in fourteen games, is desperately in need of reinforcements.

Massara is also working on the departure of Evan Ferguson, whose return to Brighton is already on the cards, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The objective is twofold: to free himself from the loan deals that haven’t worked out and to unleash the assault on Zirkzee, respecting Gasperini’s clear instructions, who requires immediate additions that fit his system.
