Roma are weighing a move for Sunderland midfielder Habib Diarra this summer, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, with any approach thought to depend on Manu Koné leaving the Stadio Olimpico.

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin is also under consideration as the Italians assess midfield options before the new season.

There has been no offer and no formal talks with Sunderland at this stage. Any recruitment appears contingent on Koné departing, so Diarra is viewed as a possible replacement rather than an immediate priority.

Diarra, 22, joined from Strasbourg last summer for around £30million, a club-record fee, and signed a five-year deal running to 2030.

He is expected to play a significant role for Régis Le Bris this season. Sunderland are not thought to be looking to sell and would be in a strong position if Roma decide to firm up their interest.

The midfielder came through Mulhouse and Strasbourg, made his Ligue 1 debut in October 2021, then completed his move to Wearside in July 2025. He has returned to training after an extended post-World Cup break.
