Romagnoli’s Al-Sadd move ‘said to be off’, Lazio man back training | OneFootball

Alessio Romagnoli’s proposed switch to Al-Sadd has reportedly collapsed following a late hitch linked to the situation in the Middle East.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports that the transfer is off, and the Lazio defender has rejoined training this week, though he is working separately.

Last month Lazio agreed to sell him to the Qatari champions for €3 million, seemingly ending a six-month saga. It later emerged Al-Sadd could not process a transaction because of regional disruption. The club asked to defer payment until January, a request Claudio Lotito rejected.

The outcome appears bitter for all sides, with Lazio missing out on a €3 million fee and a €5 million saving on wages. Romagnoli had been poised to sign a three-year contract worth €6 million net per season.

Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with him at Atalanta, but Romagnoli prefers a move abroad rather than another Serie A club. A reconciliation with the Lazio hierarchy is considered unlikely after he bid farewell to fans in a video shown during a large anti-Lotito protest earlier this month.
