L’Équipe reports that 2005 Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho has joined the race to take over AS Monaco’s basketball team, backed by Andorran fund Clayton Sport. Jamal Mashburn’s Helen Holdings proposal remains under discussion.
Ronaldinho and Clayton Sport sent a letter of intent on Monday evening to the club’s executive director, Oleksiy Yefimov.
Their plan would settle a 2.5 million euros debt owed to the Euroligue, and provide a 5 million euros bank guarantee required by the DNCCG.
They would also consider a commitment of three to five years, worth 10 million euros per season.
Ronaldinho has close ties to Monaco, having played in a Barbagiuans match in June. He would not be there only to lend his image, he could invest personally and take a major role.
With referral to the CNOSF only days away, the Principality club would now have two takeover offers on the table.
