Cristiano Ronaldo finally got his hands on the Saudi Pro League title as Al Nassr beat Damac 4-1 to seal the championship on the final day of the season.
After more than three years in Saudi Arabia, plenty of criticism and several near misses, the Portuguese star at last delivered the domestic trophy Al Nassr had been desperate for since his arrival. It is also the club’s first league title in seven years.
Ronaldo once again stepped up when the pressure was highest. Sadio Mané gave Al Nassr the lead before Kingsley Coman doubled the advantage early in the second half, but Damac threatened to make things uncomfortable after pulling one back from the penalty spot.
With nerves beginning to grow around the stadium, Ronaldo produced the moment that effectively settled the contest. The 41-year-old curled in a stunning free-kick from a tight angle before later smashing home his second goal of the night to put the result beyond doubt.
The title also means Ronaldo has now won league championships in England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia during his remarkable career.
After years of frustration in Riyadh, Al Nassr and Ronaldo finally have the trophy they had been waiting for.
