Cristiano Ronaldo saw an effort saved by Marc Andre Ter Stegen just two minutes later after Pedro Neto found the veteran following a lung-bursting run from the winger.

With both sides battling for control in Munich, Nick Woltemade forced Costa into a fantastic save to deny the forward on his first appearance for die Nationalelf.

The Portuguese keeper was forced into action once again a few minutes later as Goretzka sent a side-footed effort towards goal. Costa did fantastically to get down to his right and push the ball away from harm.

Moments into the second half, Ronaldo came inches away from prodding the ball home after a Nuno Mendes cross, however, the striker couldn't get enough on the ball.

However, just over a minute later, Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for the hosts after a Joshua Kimmich clipped a beautiful ball towards the young sensation, who sent a lovely header into the bottom corner past Costa to give Germany a valuable 1-0 lead in Munich.

Looking to respond, Bruno Fernandes sent a good effort a few inches wide after cutting in onto his strong right foot on the edge of the box.

And in the 63rd minute, Portugal did get their response through Francisco Conceicao, who opened his body up to send a beautifully curled effort into the side netting of Ter Stegen's goal, dragging his side level.

Taking the match in their stride, Portugal were able to grab the lead just four minutes later through their veteran striker. Nuno Mendes, who has been a menace all game, played the ball across the six-yard box excellently for Cristiano Ronaldo to turn the semi-final on its head.

Conceicao came close to adding a third for the Portuguese, having got the better of Jonathan Tah in a foot race on the right-hand side, before his powerful left-footed strike flew narrowly wide.

Karim Adeyemi went up the other end and sent a powerful effort towards goal, however, the winger struck the post.

Ter Stegen made a fantastic save to deny both Diogo Jota and Conceicao in the 89th minute, keeping Germany in the game with the tie entering its final stages.

However, Portugal were able to see out the result and book their place in Sunday's Nations League final against either Spain or France.

Germany will take place in the third-place match in Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon against the losers of Wednesday evening's clash.
