Liam Rosenior has just taken his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game against Hull in the FA Cup on Friday night, and he was asked about the status of Wesley Fofana.
The French defender has been treated incredibly carefully this season because of his endless injury problems. Last week he started both against Arsenal in midweek and then against Wolves at the weekend. But that meant he certainly wasn’t able to play against Leeds last night.
So the question to Rosenior was – when he will be able to start every game, or close to it?

Liam Rosenior speaks after a Leeds draw.
“For the first time in a long time [last week], he played back-to-back from midweek to the weekend,” Rosenior said of his star defender.
“That’s a really positive sign. The aim for every player is to build them to a point where they can play every game. That’s the aim and we’re not quite there yet. But with the medical team that I’m working with and the way we’re working, I’m confident we can get him there.”
The coach denied that part of the team’s problem last night was a lack of familiarity between defenders caused by the fact that, even when fit, the Frenchman needs to be brought in and out of the team.
But we can all see the truth – if Fofana was capable of playing last night, we almost certainly don’t drop those two points.
The manager also had updates on his team’s likely setup tomorrow – he insisted he didn’t see it as a chance to rotate, but lets get real, there will be many changes to last night’s team.
Rosenior also had important updates on the status of his two injured full backs, who sound like they will both be missing Friday night’s game.
