There was a lot to get through in today’s Chelsea press conference following the wreckage of Wednesday night’s Champions League game against PSG.
One topic that was covered was the widely shared clip of Enzo Fernandez screaming at Filip Jorgensen. The goalkeeper had made a number of risky passes into midfield, one of which led to the killer goal. When the Dane tried another not long afterwards – and was only saved by an offside flag – Enzo had had enough.
He made his feelings very clear to his teammate, and Rosenior defended this as perfectly normal.
“I watched it back. That’s a player with passion who wants to win,” Rosenior said.
“Roy Keane as a player probably did that 20 times a game. I want a team with culture and accountability. Enzo loves Filip, but in that moment he was frustrated. It’s no more than that.”
We’d agree with that. We don’t want players blaming each other all the time, but in this case Jorgensen was taking unnecessary risks, and given how he had let his team down already, we can understand Enzo’s frustration.
Rosenior also spoke about the goalkeeper situation which is hanging over the club right now, and insisted he would continue to pick game by game.
Wesley Fofana spoke after the PSG game about how his Chelsea teammates were struggling physically, which made Rosenior’s sub decision all the more curious.
