Rosenior’s response to Cole Palmer miss tells you everything about his man management

Liam Rosenior is a classic modern manager in that he prefers not to single out players for praise or criticism too much.

When asked to say nice things about someone, he tends to shift the focus to the whole team. The same goes when he’s given a chance to lay into someone. As someone focused on man management, it’s a standard tactic to remind his group constantly that it’s a team game.

Cole Palmer spoons his chance over.

Last night had a perfect example. Cole Palmer skied a late chance which would have won the game, and Rosenior was asked about it after the game. Of course, he was hardly going to lay into the guy who had already scored and assisted in the game:

“He’s in the right position and 999 times out of 1000 he scores,” Rosenior said of his attacker after the game.

“It was just that one-in-a-thousand moment. I have to say, the last 20 minutes was wave after wave of attack. The lads’ energy, considering the amount of games that we played, the belief they show, we create chance after chance. It just didn’t quite go in, but we shouldn’t be in that position. When we lead at 2-0, the game should be done at home and there are certain things I can show the players, so we make sure that that can’t happen again.”

So instead of blaming Palmer for one miss, he shifts the blame for the disappointing result to the whole team, who collectively didn’t do what they needed to do at 2-0 up.

In other news…

Nicolas Jackson looks like he will be left out of Bayern Munich’s squad for tonight’s cup game against RB Leipzig. And potentially more squad going forward, now they have so many attacking options.

Last night was an ugly night for Moises Caicedo, who has had an incredibly good season. His stats last night were pretty rough compared to his usual high standards.
