Rubens Franco named Vasco women's head coach, starts in January

The club said in a statement that Rubens Franco has been appointed head coach of the women's team and will begin work in the first week of January.

Franco previously worked with Grêmio's under-17 and under-20 sides, and his most recent role was with the Brazil under-15s.

He won the first Conmebol Liga Evolução Sub-15 with the Brazilian national team.

Vasco dismissed Verônica Coutinho last month, one week after their Campeonato Carioca elimination by Flamengo.

They reached the semi-finals after finishing fourth, then drew 2-2 before losing 3-0 in the second leg to Flamengo.

The club is reshaping its women's set-up, with many players departing in the past month.

Vasco compete in the national second tier and are aiming to improve on recent seasons.
