At the same time, the veteran defender wants to make room for the upcoming rebuild under new Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp.

Rüdiger was behind Jonathan Tah and Nico Schlotterbeck in the pecking order at the World Cup and only came into the starting eleven when the latter suffered an injury.

The Berlin-born defender made his Germany debut in 2014.
