Rui Costa criticised as Campo Maior Casa decries silence after incorrect claim | OneFootball

Casa do Benfica de Campo Maior, the club’s number one Casa, has publicly criticised the absence of any clarification or correction from president Rui Costa, two weeks after he said, incorrectly, that the branch was not operating.

According to Glorioso 1904, the Casa said it reacted immediately to his remarks on BTV’s ‘Pelas Casas do Benfica’, sending a registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt the next day, but had yet to receive a reply.

In a statement, it argued that the president’s silence, after what it described as a discreet correction of a serious error, showed a lack of institutional consideration for a historic Casa and the volunteers who work for the club.

The note added that such behaviour did not honour the office and was incompatible with the values of respect, truth and gratitude that Sport Lisboa e Benfica says it upholds, expressing deep displeasure and institutional perplexity at the silence.

Despite the dispute, the Campo Maior branch stressed its bond with the club remains unchanged, stating its commitment is, and will remain, to Benfica regardless of people or circumstances.
