Benfica target André Luiz is closing in on a move to Olympiakos, after Rui Costa’s negotiations ended when Evangelos Marinakis would not waive the 20 million euro release clause.

Record writes on 28 January that the 23-year-old winger is poised to head to Greece, with an agreement reached between Rio Ave and the Greek champions, mediated by Marinakis, who owns Olympiakos and holds the largest stake in Rio Ave’s SAD.

No official fee has been disclosed, though the amount to be paid by Olympiakos will be lower than the sum Rio Ave sought from Benfica.

Momentum grew after a photograph appeared showing André Luiz alongside Marinakis in Athens.

This season for Rio Ave, André Luiz, valued at 4 million euros, has played 20 matches, 19 in Liga Portugal Betclic and one in the Taça de Portugal, across 1,530 minutes. He has scored seven goals and provided five assists, and his contract runs to June 2029.
