Russell Martin leaves Leicester City duo out amid transfer interest for Notts County opener | OneFootball

Russell Martin has omitted Stephy Mavididi and Wout Faes from Leicester City's League One opener at Notts County, citing transfer interest and saying it is probable neither will still be at the club after the window.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Mavididi was left out at Meadow Lane, having started in last week's Carabao Cup victory, while Faes, having missed the Northampton win for personal reasons, returned to training this week.

Wes Burns came into the side, with Will Alves starting on the left. Alex McCarthy was the other change, back after a knock.

Mavididi has attracted interest all summer, with Middlesbrough among the clubs tracking the 28-year-old.

Martin said both players have been excellent professionals, but interest from elsewhere is high, so he is preparing for life without them and selected a squad that will be here all season.

He added that things can change and, if both are still at the club in two weeks, they will be valued and involved.

Louis Page was not in the matchday squad. New signing Harry Howell was named on the bench and the decision was not transfer-related.
