Walsall secured their spot in the League Two play-off final at Wembley with a dramatic late surge against Chesterfield.
Ecstatic supporters flooded the pitch after Levi Amantchi netted in stoppage time, just moments after Armando Dobra had drawn the visitors level. The Saddlers built on Saturday’s 2-0 triumph with another victory over the Spireites in the space of a week.
Impact substitute Charlie Lakin broke the deadlock on the night, finishing a move set up by fellow replacement Albert Adomah just six minutes after both had been introduced. The goal gave Walsall a three-goal cushion with less than 10 minutes to play.
Dobra pulled one back for Chesterfield in added time, but Amantchi redeemed an earlier miss by scoring almost immediately, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
The match was briefly halted as fans invaded the pitch to celebrate, with flares landing on the grass.
Walsall will now take on the winner of Saturday’s clash between AFC Wimbledon and Notts County in the final on Bank Holiday Monday.
