January Southampton signing Mislav Oršić has been warned that his club situation puts him at risk of losing his Croatia place.
That is according to the country’s head coach Zlatko Dalić, who is unhappy with the 30-year-old’s career trajectory following his move to St Mary’s.
The 27-times capped international has been included in Croatia’s squad for this month’s double-header but is unlikely to feature, having played just six minutes of Premier League football since his arrival from Dinamo Zagreb.
“I feel sorry for him because he’s not part of his club but I also don’t want to lose him from our squad,” Dalić said, as quoted by Croatian outlet 24Sata.
“He’s not in match shape and is unfit but I want to give him a chance to come in. If he doesn’t play regularly with his club then unfortunately, it means he won’t play with the national team either.”
Saints boss Rubén Sellés did recently admit that he views other players as further ahead of Oršić in the pecking order.
