Sam Byram says regular minutes will be his priority next season with his Leeds United contract up at the end of next month. The 32-year-old is one of four permanent players nearing expiry, the other three are goalkeepers.
Across two Championship campaigns under Daniel Farke he started 45 times and made 30 substitute outings, but promotion brought new signings and he slipped down the order.
He had eight minutes off the bench at Arsenal in August and has not featured in the Premier League since. His only start this season came in the Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in August, with late FA Cup cameos against Derby County and Norwich City.
“I'd like to play regularly if I can. It's something off the back of before coming here, I had a lot of years on the sideline with injuries. So I think for me to get myself in a position where it's the best I've felt physically, I think that's something I really want to fulfil, play as much as I can.”
He was speaking on the Official Leeds United podcast.
Leeds are expected to add further at full-back this summer, so a decision now looms as Byram’s deal runs down. If he does move on, it would follow an effective two-year contribution after returning with long-term fitness issues, including last season’s 100-point title triumph.
