We’ve seen some pretty wild goal celebrations in our time, but this might be the wildest of them all.

On Saturday, Lazio thought they’d done enough to earn all three points at home to Sampdoria when Ciro Immobile put them 2-1 up from the penalty spot in the 96th minute.

But the fact the penalty decision was subject to a VAR review meant the referee was forced to add on even more injury time and with 99 minutes on the clock, Riccardo Saponara scored a dramatic and brilliant late equaliser.

The forward ran to the jubilant away supporters in celebration but as he did so, his shirt, shorts and underpants were removed, exposing his bare behind for all the world to see.

“It was wonderful, as after the penalty we felt down, but on that last long ball, I just kept believing,” Saponara told DAZN after earning his side a draw.

“I saw the ball coming and closed my eyes on the lob, but when I opened them, I saw it had gone in. I ran to the fans behind the goal and they tore all my clothes off!

“It was such a great feeling to score right at the end like that. We were too timid in the second half and in the end paid for it, as Lazio were more aggressive. We were lucky too, eventually, so we’ll take the point.”

Just last week, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri – who previously coached Saponara at Empoli – described the 26-year-old as “mentally fragile” when comparing him to Álvaro Morata.

God knows how mentally fragile he must be feeling after this weekend’s events.
