San Diego FC transfer Luca Bombino to Stoke City | OneFootball

San Diego FC have transferred defender Luca Bombino to EFL Championship side Stoke City, the club announced Tuesday.

The 20-year-old US youth international departs for a reported $5 million fee, and San Diego retain a sell-on percentage.

"This transfer represents the kind of long-term, player-focused development that is central to our club’s strategy and vision," said sporting director Tyler Heaps. "Over the past 18 months, Luca has developed tremendously, and this opportunity reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in his growth.

"I want to thank our scouting and coaching staff for their continued investment in Luca and for creating the environment that allowed him to reach this point. We’re grateful to Luca for his contributions to San Diego FC, both on and off the field. We wish him nothing but the best in this next chapter at Stoke City."

Bombino, an LAFC Academy product, tallied 2g/6a in 43 regular-season appearances for San Diego. He also helped the Chrome-and-Azul to a historic 2025 MLS expansion season.

San Diego originally signed Bombino on loan from LAFC before fully acquiring the left back ahead of the 2026 campaign. He signed a contract extension in January.

Internationally, Bombino has represented the United States at various youth levels, most recently featuring at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
