Recently retired at 41, Santi Cazorla received a rousing ovation at Oviedo on Saturday evening before their Liga Adelante opener against Granada, which finished 0-0.

According to L'Équipe, the Asturian club celebrated their former captain, who ended his professional career this summer.

Back at his boyhood club for the past three years, the former Arsenal midfielder took the ceremonial kick-off.

He greeted team-mates on the bench, then stood at the centre of a guard of honour from his former colleagues and the visitors.

Comfortable in central or more advanced roles, and noted for his rare two-footedness, the ex-Malaga and Villarreal player made more than 850 appearances and scored nearly 150 goals.
