Santos agree loan for Caballero to Portsmouth in England’s second tier | OneFootball

Santos have agreed to loan Paraguayan forward Gustavo Caballero to Portsmouth in England’s second tier, according to Diario Do Peixe.

The player has already travelled and is due to undergo a medical before taking up a six-month contract that includes an option to buy. He remains under contract with Santos until 23 July 2027.

Caballero joined Santos in July last year but featured sparingly. He made 12 Brasileirão appearances in the last campaign, scoring one goal and providing one assist. This year he played in the opening matches of the Paulista and Série A.

He arrived from Nacional of Paraguay amid interest from Vitória de Guimarães, Paris FC and Vasco. His desire to play alongside Neymar was a factor.

Born in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, Caballero turns 25 in September. He has played his club football in Paraguay with Deportivo Capiatá, Sportivo Ameliano and Nacional. Last year he appeared for Paraguay’s Under-23s in a friendly.
