Santos have announced the signing of 30-year-old midfielder Arthur, formerly of Grêmio and capped by Brazil, on a contract until the end of 2026.
Arthur said he was delighted to join and felt honoured by the club’s stature. He added that he is eager to play at Vila Belmiro, help his team-mates and feel the supporters’ energy.
Born in Goiânia, he came through Goiás’s academy before moving to Grêmio at 14 and making his senior debut in 2015. He helped win the 2016 Copa do Brasil, then became a key figure in the 2017 Libertadores triumph, being named man of the match in the final.
Known for his technique, tempo control and crisp distribution, Arthur established himself among Brazil’s leading midfielders, earning regular national team call-ups and attracting European interest.
Barcelona signed him in 2018 and he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. He later joined Juventus, lifting the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana. Spells with Liverpool, Fiorentina and Girona followed, before a 2025 return to Grêmio that brought the Campeonato Gaúcho.
For Brazil he has 22 caps and one goal, and was part of the 2019 Copa América-winning squad. He now joins Santos to begin a new chapter.
