Santos have announced the signing of Philippe Coutinho. According to Globo.com, the 34-year-old has agreed a three-month deal running to early December after passing medical and fitness tests at CT Rei Pelé over the weekend.

Coutinho arrived on Friday and went straight to the training ground for cardiology and imaging assessments, while also familiarising himself with his new surroundings. After a full round of examinations, he was authorised to sign for the Peixe.

The plan is to begin his integration immediately so he can be available quickly. He has maintained his fitness since leaving Vasco, although match sharpness remains a concern.

Coutinho was recommended to the board by Neymar, mirroring the capture of Arthur, who also signed a short contract. With support from Neymar’s company, Santos lifted a transfer ban and resumed recruitment, adding Rodinei, Lima and Everton Cebolinha.

He has not played since 14 February, when he featured for Vasco against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca. A week later he terminated his contract to prioritise his mental health, with supporter pressure contributing to an early end to a deal that had been due to run until mid-year.

Since then, he has taken time off while keeping in shape, training with the ball and focusing on individual physical work.
