Santos have not joined the clubs petitioning the Supreme Federal Court, STF, over restrictions on sports-betting companies in Brazilian football, according to Diario Do Peixe.

The court move follows a decision to remove betting firms from the sports market, a change that could affect existing sponsorship deals and cause financial losses for teams.

Flamengo, Botafogo, São Paulo, Vitória, Ponte Preta, Guarani and Portuguesa have asked to take part in the proceedings. They argue that abruptly ending contracts could disrupt financial planning.

Santos have so far stayed out. The club has not signed the initiative or filed to join the actions before the court.

Their situation differs from some of those involved because Santos no longer had a betting company as main shirt sponsor.

The club had an agreement with Novibet worth around R$ 35 million per season, but the deal ended after changes to the sector’s regulation. Since then, the brand has been removed from the shirt while the club monitors how the debate over betting and football develops.
