Marcelo Teixeira said talks on Gabigol’s future would take place at the end of the season after the striker scored both goals in Santos’ 2-1 win at São Paulo on Friday. He added that the forward will be central to any decision and that finances will be key.

According to Diario Do Peixe, Gabigol is on loan from Cruzeiro to Santos until the end of 2026 and remains contracted to Cruzeiro until December 2028. The agreement includes no fixed purchase fee, so any permanent stay would need a new negotiation.

Teixeira felt the player’s rising value in a Santos shirt should not hinder dialogue between the clubs, noting the loan also aimed to boost his value by returning him to his home club.

He stressed the player will have a decisive say in the process, with the financial terms a fundamental factor.

Gabigol’s form has sharpened the issue. His brace at Morumbis took him to 23 goals and 10 assists in 43 appearances this season, and the result marked Santos’ fifth straight league win, lifting them to seventh on 41 points.

The loan runs to December, and Cruzeiro have signalled they do not plan to repeat in 2027 the current wage-sharing model, which could be a discussion point. No formal talks have started.
