Santos have lined up the signing of forward Rony, with the clubs due to exchange paperwork and the player should sign a three-year contract.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the fee is around three million euros. He has already bid farewell to his Galo team-mates, having been under contract until the end of next year.

Rony should become the Alvinegro’s third addition of the year, alongside midfielder Gabriel Menino and forward Gabriel Barbosa.

Santos had been pursuing the forward since December last year, and talks cooled several times during negotiations with Atlético-MG. The interest pre-dated his move to the Minas Gerais club, and the board had already sounded him out. The football department has been seeking wingers and still wants Michael of Flamengo.

Ronielson da Silva Barbosa, 30, is from Magalhães Barata, Pará. He came through Remo and made his senior debut in March 2014, before a permanent switch to Cruzeiro and a loan to Náutico. He was sold to Albirex Niigata in Japan, then returned to Brazil with Athletico-PR.

He later joined Palmeiras, spending five years and lifting multiple trophies, before signing for Atlético-MG last year. In 2023 he played for Brazil for the first time, debuting in a friendly against Morocco.
