This Sunday, after taking the lead against Guarani, Santos faltered in the final moments of the game and allowed Bugre to equalize. Thus, the match at Estádio Brinco de Ouro in Campinas, valid for the third round of the Campeonato Paulista, ended 1-1. Despite the disappointing result for Peixe, some players delivered strong individual performances, such as Barreal, Gabriel Brazão, and Vini Lira.

The best Santos player on the field was goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão. In addition to making several crucial saves against Guarani’s attacks throughout the match, he also stopped a penalty. Early in the second half, Zé Ivaldo blocked a shot with his arm and the referee awarded a penalty. On the kick, Mirandinha aimed for the corner, but Brazão made the save. His performance ensured that Peixe didn’t leave the game with an even worse result.

Barreal, who has been gaining a spot among Vojvoda’s starters at the beginning of this season, also stood out. The forward scored Santos’s only goal in the match, which would have secured the win if not for the slip-up in the final minute. He received a cross from the left and redirected it into the net. Additionally, he hit the target with four of his five shots in the game.

Another player who was a pleasant surprise was left-back Vini Lira, who made his debut as a starter for the main team. Included in the starting eleven, the 18-year-old showed no signs of pressure and contributed to Santos’s goal with an assist to Barreal. He received a long pass from Arão and, first time, played the ball to the Santos forward inside the box.

On the other hand, forward Thaciano, who took the position due to Gabigol’s absence (rested for the derby against Corinthians midweek), performed well below expectations. The number 16 was barely involved in Santos’s attack, with only 17 touches on the ball. Thaciano also failed to hit the target with any of his five shots in the match. In the final minutes, he was substituted for Robinho Jr.

Another disappointing player was right-back Mayke, who also got another chance under Vojvoda but did not perform well. Besides his limited presence in attack, with just one unsuccessful cross into the box, the former Palmeiras player lost possession 14 times during the match.
