Santos have ended their pursuit of Marco Di Cesare after Racing changed the financial terms. According to Diario Do Peixe, the president raised the price to 6 million dollars for 90% of the defender's rights and cited recent issues with Brazilian clubs. Santos then stepped back.

Santos had proposed a 750,000 dollars loan, triggering a 5 million dollar purchase for 75% after 10 appearances. They planned to use upcoming TV quota dates to fund it. With limited minutes, Di Cesare has been pushing to leave.

Head coach Vojvoda and his staff had approved the move. Di Cesare was seen as a ball-playing, mobile centre-back suited to a higher defensive line.

Santos are working against the clock. They must pay Arouca of Portugal by 26 February or risk a transferban, and the window shuts on 3 March.

Di Cesare, 24, is from Mendoza and has spent his career in Argentina. He came through Andes Talleres, joined Argentinos Juniors in 2018, debuted in 2020 and played 48 matches, including the 2023 Libertadores, before moving to Racing.

At Avellaneda he helped win the 2024 Copa Sudamericana and made the team of the tournament. He lifted the Recopa Sudamericana early last year. By early this year he had more than 47 appearances and featured for Argentina's youth sides, starting at the Under-23 Pre-Olympic and making the Paris 2024 squad.
