According to Globo.com, Santos are waiting on formal clearance to finalise Rodinei’s signing from Olympiacos of Greece. The 34-year-old is expected to arrive in Brazil with his contract termination completed.

Terms with the player are agreed, and he would bolster a thin right-back unit featuring Igor Vinicius, with Gabriel Menino an option but currently injured. He would challenge for a place under Cuca.

The club aim to progress talks on Tuesday and are optimistic of concluding the deal in the coming hours.

By contrast, negotiations for Emerson Palmieri have cooled. The 32-year-old left-back, under contract at Olympique de Marseille until mid next year, had accepted Santos’ offer, but the French club have toughened their stance.

Marseille are now demanding compensation for his immediate release. Santos’ board has told the player’s camp it cannot add more money beyond the sums due directly to the player.
