Emerson Palmieri made a final attempt on Tuesday to secure a release from his Olympique de Marseille contract in order to complete a return to Santos.
Globo.com reports that the 32-year-old remains under contract with the French club until the middle of next year, and that Santos will not pay a transfer fee, leaving a termination as the only viable route.
His representatives and Santos are awaiting Marseille’s response. Today is the final day of the French transfer window.
A Menino da Vila, Palmieri is seeking a move back to Brazil after 12 years playing abroad.
As they await a decision on the left-back, Santos are making final preparations to receive Rodinei, who has secured his release from Olympiacos in Greece.
On Monday, the club had already confirmed midfielder Arthur as a new signing.
