São Paulo prosecutors open probe into Corinthians president Osmar Stábile’s private security payments | OneFootball

São Paulo’s public prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal inquiry into payments for the private security of Corinthians president Osmar Stábile. According to Globo.com, the investigation will examine potential offences linked to the contract.

The Criminal Investigatory Procedure, known as a PIC, stems from complaints by club members. They allege Corinthians paid R$ 586,987.65 to Bear Security Ltda, a Rio de Janeiro firm said to have operated in a status deemed irregular by the Federal Police.

Prosecutor Cássio Conserino, who is also handling other Corinthians matters, likens the case to the use of the club credit card for personal spending that triggered complaints against former presidents Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves. He argues the current president is deriving direct benefit from club-funded security.

He says such contracting with club money could constitute crimes, including embezzlement or fraud, depending on the circumstances, any internal authorisations, the beneficiary’s conduct and the payment trail. He adds that using the presidency for personal gain could even endanger the association’s tax exemptions.

As an initial measure, prosecutors ordered Corinthians to state within 10 days who makes the payments to Bear Security and to submit documents proving the amounts. The advisory council, CORI, has also been asked to confirm within the same period whether it authorised or knew of Bear’s engagement for Stábile under the club statute.

Separately, another inquiry into a different security provider is under way. In that process, the club confirmed Bear provides personal security exclusively to Stábile in the exercise of his role as president.
