Renzo Saravia has won the confidence of Carlos Corberán at Valencia after stepping in to resolve a right-back shortage.

According to AS, Valencia were left short once the winter window shut, with both right-backs injured and Foulquier out for the season, so the club turned to the free-agent market and signed Saravia.

The Argentine arrived after two months without a team and needed time to regain fitness and trust. Corberán initially used centre-back Unai Núñez at right-back, which worked until Núñez was injured, further exposing the flank.

Saravia’s chance came in a midweek game at Mallorca. He replaced the injured Thierry after 10 minutes, played 79, and, despite some rust, kept pace with the side.

He has since started against Girona, Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club. At San Mamés he completed 90 minutes in his best display so far, defending well and proving himself a credible option for Valencia.

Saravia’s deal expires at the end of the season and Valencia have not yet opened renewal talks. It is clear Thierry will not renew, and the club want to find an exit for Foulquier so he does not see out his final year at Mestalla.
