Yasser Al-Misehal has resigned as president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation after the team’s group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup.
According to L'Équipe, Al-Misehal stepped down on Sunday night, bringing to a close seven years in charge.
Saudi Arabia drew 0-0 with Cape Verde in their final group game, finishing bottom of Group H with two points.
Al-Misehal said the failure to reach the next stage did not meet the federation’s collective ambitions and that he accepted full responsibility.
This was Saudi Arabia’s third consecutive World Cup and their seventh overall, with a last-16 appearance only once, in 1994.
Al-Misehal played a central role in the country’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup, which is due to take place in the Gulf.
