According to Sander de Vries, SC Heerenveen are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea youngster Charlie Webster. The 19-year-old England youth international can play as an attacking, defensive or central midfielder. This season, Webster has played 26 times for Chelsea’s U21s. He’s scored six goals and provided one assist.
Heerenveen are set to be stripped of several players this summer. Attacking midfielder Rami Al-Hajj is set to leave the Eredivisie side as a free agent and Tibor Halilovic is also allowed to leave. There’s a high chance that 28-year-old defensive midfielder Thom Haye might leave in the summer. Haye has attracted interest from Sunderland and Toulouse.
Heerenveen finished the campaign in eighth place and they still have a shot at qualifying for the Conference League via the playoffs. To push up the table next season, they’ll need to recruit players who are capable of consistently creating chances. Charlie Webster is said to be at the top of Heerenveen’s list of transfer targets. A loan move would give the 2004-born midfielder the chance to play regular first-team football.
