Sebastian Nanasi came off the bench to transform Strasbourg’s Europa Conference League night, teeing up Valentin Barco for the goal that sealed a 1-1 draw with HNK Rijeka and a quarter-final place after a 2-1 first leg.
Gary O'Neil had started Martial Godo on the left, and the Sweden international, 23, waited until the 62nd minute to replace him. L'Équipe notes that Nanasi has rediscovered his spark, influencing games even when he does not start.
In lively form, he cut inside onto his right and fired over from 20 metres in the 68th minute. Soon after, Samir el-Mourabet released him down the left, he delayed to draw Anel Husic and Ante Orec, then slid the pass for the left-footed Barco to finish in two touches in the 71st minute.
In Croatia in the first leg he had already supplied the assist for Joaquin Panichelli’s opener. This was Nanasi’s third assist in his last three Conference League appearances, to go with one goal.
After an autumn shoulder injury, the former Malmö midfielder, a 2024 Swedish champion and the league’s player of the year, looks to be back in rhythm. Strasbourg’s support can relish the prospect of him lighting up the run-in.
