Rúben Sellés has been sacked by Sheffield United after just five Championship games with Chris Wilder set to make a surprise return.
Wilder's Blades lost to Sunderland in the Championship play-off last season, a defeat that cost the manager his job with former Southampton, Reading, and Hull City boss Sellés chosen as his successor.
But Sellés has lasted just six games in total – five in the Championship and one in the League Cup – before being sacked after losing each fixture, conceding 14 goals in total.
"Sheffield United Football Club's board of directors have opted to make a change at managerial level," a statement posted by the South Yorkshire club said including five against Ipswich Town last Friday.
"After a disappointing start to the EFL Championship campaign, Rubén Sellés has been relieved of his duties as manager.
"Following a review of recent performances, and taking into account the feelings of supporters, the timing of the change has been made to give the club the best possible opportunity to improve the current league position.
"The board of directors wish to thank Mr Sellés for his hard work.
"A new manager will be named in due course."
Reports have suggested that Sheffield United will once again turn to Chris Wilder just months after dismissing the 57-year-old.
