UD Torre del Mar have appointed Sergi Escobar as head coach on a deal running at least to the end of the season. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Málaga club announced the move only hours ago.

Escobar takes over a side competing in Group IV of the Tercera Federación, covering Eastern Andalusia and Melilla. Torre del Mar sit fourth, occupying a promotion play-off berth for the Segunda Federación.

Despite that position, the club dismissed previous coach David Campaña after a poor run, aiming to prevent further slippage in the table.

Escobar, who had multiple spells in charge of CD Castellón, has been out for close to a year since leaving Badalona Futur. He departed on 23 February 2025 after a 0-2 home defeat to Atlético Baleares.

He guided CD Castellón to promotion in 2018, ending seven seasons in Tercera. Torre del Mar have 41 points, behind Arenas de Armilla on 43, CF Motril on 50 and leaders CP Mijas Las Lagunas on 51.

The squad includes 38-year-old Acuña, formerly of Cádiz, Salamanca, Real Madrid Castilla, Recreativo, Girona, Watfort and Olimpia.
