Cristian Chivu can rely on a full squad, but Lautaro Martinez is still not fully fit due to back pain so Pio Esposito is favourite to start in attack alongside Marcus Thuram.

Swiss keeper Yann Sommer is expected to rest, reports Sky Sport, giving Josep Martinez his 2025-26 debut. Alessandro Bastoni could rest too, making room for Carlos Augusto, while Francesco Acerbi will return to the starting XI.

Yeferson Paz is the only unavailable player for Sassuolo.

Former Leicester City right-back Woyo Coulibaly is expected to start his first Serie A match, pushing Sebastian Walukiewicz to the bench.
