The Rossoneri are able to field Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao alongside each other for only the second time this season in Serie A, as Massimiliano Allegri’s side look to move back to within a point of league leaders Inter.

Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa are without a win in four league matches heading into this evening’s showdown in San Siro and currently find themselves in 17th place in the league table. They are not at risk of dropping into the bottom three tonight, though.

Kick-off is due at 19.45 GMT.

Half-time: Milan 0-1 Genoa

Milan trail at the half-way stage: Rossoneri loanee Lorenzo Colombo with the goal against his parent club separating the sides at the interval.

What has happened there?

The ball pinballs around the area, Milan look certain to score, it looks to have fallen for Fofana, who somehow just falls over in the area with nobody else around him. Bizzare.

Pulisic is okay to continue as play resumes with a Genoa goal kick.

Milan starting to build now. A Norton-Cuffy deflection helps Bartesaghi’s cross on its way into the area. Pulisic flings himself at it and hurts himself in the process.

Milan 0-1 Genoa - Colombo!

Somewhat against the run of play, Genoa are in front with their first shot on target! It’s a brilliant delivery in from Malinovskyi, and the space opens up in the middle for Colombo to score his fourth goal of the season!

A Milan mix-up there. Genoa gifted the Rossoneri possession in their own half with several attackers forwards. Fofana plays in a low cross, where you’d expect a centre-forward to be, but there was nobody there to meet the ball in. Leao and Pulisic had dropped. An unfortunate misunderstanding there.

Midway through the first half: It’s been a fairly quiet opening so far, still awaiting the first shot on target. Gabbia the closest so far, he saw a header come off the crossbar nine minutes in.

Routine for Maignan, who comes out to gather a Martin free-kick delivery into the Milan area.

A brilliant, deep delivery from Norton-Cuffy causes a momentary bit of panic in the Milan area. Minor appeals for a penalty after Colombo went to ground under the challenge of Pavlovic, but nothing given.

Saelemaekers, Modric and Pulisic standing over that free-kick, but it’s Pavlovic who takes it, and fires right into the wall.

Fofana with an intelligent bit of movement to win Milan a free-kick from a decent shooting position, just over 25 yards out, just to the right of centre.

Tomori heads the Genoa corner out for a throw and out of any immediate danger.

Vitinha with Genoa’s first attempt of the game: He dribbles his way to the edge of the D, but a big deflection takes all the sting out of his shot. Corner Genoa.

Pavlovic finds himself up with Leao and Pulisic in the Genoa area, but heads over the crossbar for a goal-kick.

Gabbia off the bar!

Pulisic slips in Fofana this time and the Frenchman wins another Rossoneri corner.

It goes short, Pulisic delivers in the second phase and Gabbia heads off the crossbar! It looks like Leali might have got a hand to that.

Genoa hoof the Milan corner clear, but Vitinha is adjudged to have fouled Saelemaekers on the break,  just before the half way line.

Fofana looks to slip Pulisic in on the edge of the area, but ends up winning the first corner of the game instead,

Allegri on where Milan's goals will come from

“I always say that the numbers find the right balance by the end of the season. Right now, Pulisic and Leao are scoring, Nkunku has started to score. Some will come from Fullkrug, but also from the midfielders and the defenders from set pieces.”

2026-01-08 19:35:10

Allegri on managing minutes and Nkunku fitness

“I don’t know how we’ll manage it yet. Tonight’s is the most important game for now, and then we’ll see who’s able to play in Florence. Most of our players are back, we hope to have Nkunku with us next time, if not against Como.”

2026-01-08 19:34:03

Allegri on Leao and Pulisic

“Leao and Pulisic are capable of playing as centre-forwards. It’s great that they don’t give defenders much to go off, they can benefit from this and they can do even better,” Allegri told DAZN before kick-off.

2026-01-08 19:32:49

Pulisic on playing up front with Leao

When asked whether he or Leao is the more ‘natural’ centre-forward, Pulisic told DAZN: “I don’t know who’s more of a centre-forward between me and Leao. We’re not really centre-forwards, but we play well together and have done well in this position.”

And on tonight’s game, he added: “It’s very important to continue our form. Genoa are a tough team, but we can only think about winning.

“I feel good today. I had a flexor problem, but I can’t wait to play tonight.”

2026-01-08 19:30:40

When asked if there is a specific plan to stop Rafael Leao tonight, De Rossi said: “Nothiing special, because Leao no longer plays in his position. That takes away one problem, but it creates another because he’s now playing a lot closer to goal and can be very dangerous.

“The difference tonight will be made by their players, their application and their energy. There is a difference in level, but we can make up for that by putting in a strong performance.”
