Serie A | Monza 1-1 Parma: Bonny grabs precious point

A splendid Ange-Yoan Bonny solo effort allowed Parma to snatch a point away to rock bottom Monza, who had taken the lead with Armando Izzo.

This was a big relegation battle between two of the bottom four. The hosts seem doomed regardless, even if last week they were leading 2-0 away to Inter before capitulating 3-2. Stefano Sensi, Luca Caldirola, Matteo Pessina and Andrea Carboni missed out. The Ducali had Alessandro Vogliacco and Simon Sohm suspended, plus Valentin Mihaila, Milan Djuric, Matteo Cancellieri, Gabriel Charpentier, Mateusz Kowalski, Alessandro Circati and Adrian Benedyczak injured.

Samuele Birindelli couldn’t get enough power on the volley from a Giorgios Kyriakopoulos cross, while Mateo Pellegrino on his first Parma start saw his first touch let him down on Dennis Man’s slide-rule pass.

Keita Balde Diao had penalty appeals waved away, as he went down too easily under the Lautaro Valenti challenge after shimmying into the box.

Alessandro Bianco stung Zion Suzuki’s gloves after a corner kick routine, while Stefano Turati was tested by the powerful Mandela Keita half-volley from the edge of the area.

Pontus Almqvist turned quickly for a curler that skimmed the far top corner, while Keita Balde Diao had penalty appeals rejected for handball.

Emanuele Valeri’s pull-back from the by-line was only palmed into the path of Almqvist, who couldn’t react quickly enough for the tap-in.

Stefano Turati flew to palm the Pellegrini scorcher round the upright after the restart, while Mandela Keita also tested the goalkeeper.

Monza took a surprise lead when a Gaetano Castrovilli corner was flicked on to find Armando Izzo, ready to fire into the roof of the net on the half-volley from eight yards.

Valeri’s long-range strike took a big deflection off Pedro Pereira to land on the roof of the net, but Parma got their equaliser with substitute Bonny.

The striker did it all himself, gathering inside his own half to run down the left between two defenders, cut inside and bend a right-foot curler into the far top corner.
