The travelling side had to do without Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who had dealt with minor muscle problems prior to the match, so Stefano Sabelli started as a right midfielder.

The first real chance of the match fell to Genoa through Lorenzo Colombo, but Corvi was brave coming off his line and was also fortunate as the ball deflected off the Grifone striker and went wide.

Parma’s best chance came to Adrian Bernabé, whose shot towards the far post was deflected by Nicola Leali into a corner.

Sabelli had an opportunity to score before the break when his header from inside the box went wide of the far post after a Marcandalli cross from the right.

Genoa protested with the referee as they felt Jacob Ondrejka deserved a second yellow card in the dying minutes of the first half, and it’s no coincidence that the Swedish midfielder was replaced during the break by Sascha Britschgi.

Parma had more of the ball possession in the second half, but didn’t really test Leali as many of their crosses for Mateo Pellegrino were inaccurate.

Another Parma striker, Milan Djuric, who was introduced as a substitute, also tried to score with a weak header that went out wide.

Genoa had one of their best chances in the game around minute 90, but yet again Corvi made a fingertip save to deny Colombo from point-blank range.
