Matchday 30 of Serie A action delivered plenty of more thrills and spills from across the peninsula.
But who stood out to claim our Player of the Week honour?
When in full flight, the Sampdoria midfielder is a real joy to watch – and his side’s 3-0 win over SPAL was the perfect example of that.
He moves the ball so well and has been a graceful presence at the heart of the Blucerchiati for some time now.
With his side in need of a win to put some real daylight between themselves and their fellow relegation battlers, he stepped up to the plate.
Linetty got back to his best after some recent struggles with a tireless display at the Marassi, popping up everywhere until he was eventually brought off exhausted in the final minute.
By then he had done the damage with two first half strikes, enjoying a multi-goal game in Serie A for the first time his career.
Those goals also brought his tally for the season to four which is another personal best for the 25-year-old.
And while everyone is praising Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood for his flawless finishing with both feet, Linetty showed he’s no slouch in that department either.
He swept home a delightful effort from the edge of the area for his side’s opener with his left before capitalising on a defensive slip to rifle in on his right to make it three.
With main man Gastón Ramírez suffering from an uncharacteristically slack outing, the Pole took it upon himself to assume responsibility when it was needed.
Linetty is an all-purpose player. He’s so adaptable and occupy many positions. I like him a lot. The beauty is that he’s often played on the left and in this one, he moved to the right for the second time and scored so evidently he likes it!
Ever the team player, Linetty also had a very selfless answer when he was quizzed afterwards on which of his goals he preferred.
I’m really happy to score twice as this was an important game for us. Which goal was most beautiful? The first was more difficult but the second secured the win and that’s the main thing as a team.
An answer that sums him up. He is vital to this side.
Honourable mentions: Lukasz Skorupski, Mario Rui, Cristiano Ronaldo.
