Sevilla have confirmed right-back Juan Iglesias on a free, signing a four-year deal. The club said the 27-year-old is their second addition after Jon Guridi.

The move had been lined up for months under former sporting director Antonio Cordón, and follows medical checks in Nervión. Iglesias departs Getafe after his contract expired.

He said farewell to Getafe fans last week on social media after seven seasons. Iglesias will increase competition at right-back and could cover for Juanlu Sánchez, who remains on SSC Napoli’s radar.

Next up is expected to be Arouna Sangante, arriving on a free from Le Havre in a deal also closed by Cordón. There is doubt over Patrick Mercado, whose serious injury could collapse the move.

Born in Valladolid on 3 July 1998, he joined Getafe in 2019, debuted in 2020/21 and has been first choice since 2022/23. He was among José Bordalás’s most used players last season.

At 1.87 metres he brings physical presence, defensive solidity and strong aerial ability, with accurate crosses and long passing. A balanced full-back, he is reliable in defence and in build-up, though not especially explosive.

Attention now turns to goalkeeper after departures of Odysseas Vlachodimos and Ørjan Nyland. Sevilla are exploring a return for Vlachodimos, but Newcastle United want £10 million, which makes the deal virtually unviable. Diego Conde, Villarreal’s third-choice keeper, is a cheaper option, available for one million euros and a salary request of two million gross.
