Sevilla are weighing a loan move for Atlético Madrid midfielder Obed Vargas to bolster their midfield options.
According to La Colina De Nervion, Atlético plan to send the Mexico international out on loan, with Sevilla among the suitors, while Getafe, Valencia, Alavés and Feyenoord are also monitoring his situation.
Atlético’s stance is a loan only, they rate him highly and believe he needs minutes before competing for a first-team role under ‘Cholo’ Simeone.
Sevilla could fit that plan if changes arise in midfield. The potential loss of Lucien Agoumé would oblige José Ignacio Navarro to find alternatives, and Vargas offers work rate, range and flexibility across central areas. No final decision has been made.
The clubs have traded players in recent years, with Saúl Ñíguez, César Azpilicueta and Julio Díaz moving to Sevilla, while Vitolo Machín and Kevin Gameiro went the other way.
Vargas was born in Anchorage in 2005 and came through Seattle Sounders, debuting in MLS at 15. Across five seasons he played 130 games, winning the Concacaf Champions League and the Leagues Cup, before joining Madrid in January 2026. He is a Mexico senior international and featured at the last World Cup.
