Valencia visit the Sánchez Pizjuán at 21:00 needing a response after one point from 12, with Carlos Corberán’s position on the line. The trip to a revitalised Sevilla comes after the Barcelona humiliation and Rodri’s “son malísimos” jibe.
According to Superdeporte, by matchday five the crisis nears unsustainable, linked to limited ambition and investment from ownership, a negligent market under Ron Gourlay’s structure, Corberán’s dwindling credit, poor performances and a drained fanbase. Valencia are bottom, with one scored and nine conceded in four games, the worst -8 in their centenary history.
Corberán faces a first final of the season with eight injured: Guido Rodríguez, Luis Rioja, Mouctar Diakhaby, Umar Sadiq, Dimitri Foulquier, Copete, Diego López and Sergi Canós. Guido has travelled without medical clearance as vice-captain. Justin de Haas is fit, David Otorbi is set to start, and academy players Aimar Blázquez, Iker Córdoba, Alejandro Panach, Aarón Mayol and Jaume Durà bolster the squad.
Both clubs were relegation rivals last season but chose opposite fixes. Valencia went for continuity, keeping Corberán and much of the core instead of an overhaul.
Sevilla chose a reset with LaLiga’s lowest salary cap of 20.16 million, moving early, appointing Luis García Plaza in late March and later naming José Ignacio Navarro sporting director. The churn, 16 exits and 11 signings, has yielded 7 points from 12.
Plaza is without Arouna Sangante, suspended, and Rubén Vargas, injured, while Marcao Teixeira returns. Referee Mateo Busquets of the Balearic committee has overseen four Valencia games, none wins. On 11 September, when Peter Lim dismissed Marcelino García Toral, Valencia face another final in Seville for survival and lost prestige.
