Shea Charles says his on-pitch farewell to Saints fans at Colchester was pre-arranged with head coach Tonda Eckert before his switch to Fulham.

He was an unused substitute as Southampton won 2-0 at Colchester in the Carabao Cup on Saturday, which gave him the chance to say goodbye.

He has since completed a £30 million move to Craven Cottage on a five-year contract with an option of a further year. His spell at Saints followed a 2023 switch from Manchester City.

"It was something me and the manager chatted about the day before," he told Fulham TV.

"'Do you want to come to the game?', we agreed it was a good thing to say goodbye to the fans. It was a really good send-off."

"I had a really good relationship with the fanbase. They were really good with me last year. I did really enjoy my time there."
