Sheffield United came from behind to beat Oxford United 3-1 at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.

Oxford opened the scoring when Myles Peart-Harris pounced on a Michael Cooper parry and thrashed the ball into an open goal. The Blades equalised soon after as Sydie Peck steered in a smart volley into the bottom left corner. The second half was dominated by the home side and they got their rewards when Andre Brooks bundled past several challenges before finding the top left corner. Substitute Chiedozie Ogbene completed the scoring after a superb Gustavo Hamer through ball sent him through on goal.

First Half

The Blades almost struck gold inside the opening minutes when Peck spotted Cumming well off his line and audaciously attempted to lob the goalkeeper from the halfway line, the effort drifting just wide and setting the tone for United’s intent.

However, it was the visitors who drew first blood on 14 minutes. Cooper could only parry a thunderous 25-yard drive from Brannagan, and Peart-Harris reacted quickest to tuck away the rebound and give United an early setback.

United responded positively. Hamer twice tested Cumming from distance, the goalkeeper scrambling nervously as shots whistled past, while Bindon went close when he headed over from a dangerous Hamer corner.

The pressure finally told four minutes before the break. Another partially cleared set-piece fell kindly, and Arblaster showed real quality to slip a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Burrows. The full-back kept his composure to square for Peck, who finished tidily to restore parity on 41 minutes.

Hamer came agonisingly close to putting the hosts ahead when he struck the top of the crossbar with Cumming beaten.

Second Half

After the break, Bramall Lane sensed a goal was coming. That feeling was justified on 66 minutes when Andre Brooks found the net. The 22-year-old academy graduate showed tremendous determination to beat Cumming despite being off balance.

With the visitors stretched, United looked increasingly dangerous on the counter, and the decisive moment arrived on 83 minutes. Hamer once again pulled the strings, splitting the defence with a superb through ball to pick out the run of Chiedozie Ogbene, who showed composure and pace to finish confidently, settling the contest seven minutes from time.

The Blades have now won eight straight home games, and they’ll host Middlesbrough next Monday night.
