The Blades played out a 1-1 draw at Millwall on Saturday, leaving them 17th in the second tier, 11 points adrift of the top six.

Wilder's men have proven that they can still compete with some of the Championship's best sides on their day, recently defeating automatic promotion chasers Ipswich Town 3-1.

Sheffield United's only arrival in the winter transfer window ahead of deadline day was Ki-Jana Hoever, who moved to Bramall Lane on loan from Premier League outfit Wolves.

Wilder currently enjoys the services of talented Championship midfielders such as Sydie Peck and Ollie Arblaster, but the Blades are vying to bolster their options in that area of the pitch.

According to The Telegraph's Mike McGrath, the South Yorkshire outfit are progressing with a deal for Man City's Kalvin Phillips, and have opened talks with the 31-cap England international.

McGrath's report adds that European clubs are also interested in the 30-year-old.

Sheffield United are vying to bolster their squad to ensure that they remain in the hunt for a top-six finish.

However, Phillips arguably needs to secure his move to Bramall Lane more than Wilder's men need to acquire his services, as his career has been on a downward trajectory in recent seasons.

The England midfielder previously excelled in both the Championship and the Premier League throughout his time with his former club Leeds United.

However, since joining Man City from the Elland Road outfit back in 2022, Phillips has suffered a lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old endured a poor loan spell with West Ham United in 2024, and could not help Ipswich stay in the Premier League while on loan with the Tractor Boys last term.

Meanwhile, moving to the Blades, where he would be reunited with his former Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford, should help Phillips enjoy regular football once again.
