Their 7-2 win against Bromley, which was played in front of a crowd of 30,000, was a result that would have felt unimaginable last season, and it lifted the Owls to fourth place in League One.

But as they kicked off their fourth match of the season away to Wycombe Wanderers on the final day of the transfer window, one final twist to the story of their summer was unfolding with the news that the former Barnsley striker Davis Keillor-Dunn, who signed for Wrexham at the end of the January transfer window, is completing a medical as a preliminary to a season-long loan move to Hillsborough.

Posting to the social media platform X on the final evening of the summer transfer window, Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star confirmed that Davis Keillor-Dunn has been at Hillsborough, with a view to season-long loan move to Sheffield Wednesday for the 2026-27 season.

His accompanying report in the Star confirmed that the fact that the window closes at 11pm makes time to get a deal over the line tight, but that, "Things are progressing nicely and barring any unexpected late hiccups a deal is expected to complete ahead of the 11pm deadline."

The arrival of Keillor-Dunn wouldn't be the only piece of transfer business that Sheffield Wednesday have completed on this final day of the window. It was confirmed by the BBC earlier in the day that Jaden Heskey has returned to the club on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Heskey spent the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Wednesday from the Premier League giants.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen will be pleased to have extended his attacking options at the end of this transfer window. His team may have run up seven goals against Bromley, but Wednesday's second league game of the season - and their first home League match of 2026-27 - ended with his team firing blanks all evening and ending up on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to Bradford City.

And Davis Keillor-Dunn is a proven goalscorer in League One. He scored 18 goals in League One for Barnsley throughout the 2024-25 season, and notched a highly impressive 13 in 24 League matches in the first half of 2025-26 before making the switch to Wrexham at the very end of the January transfer window.

Keillor-Dunn played for the Red Dragons over the second half of the 2019-20 season, near the beginning of his career. This and the opportunity to step up a level proved too much for the 28-year-old striker to ignore earlier in 2026, but he's been unable to break into the Wrexham team and the opportunity to get more game-time meant that his departure from The Racecourse Ground in this window was always more likely than not.

Alongside Jaden Heskey, the arrival of Davis Keillor-Dunn is a real statement of intent from Sheffield Wednesday, who had a record-breakingly bad 2025-26 season but who have looked like a club reborn over the course of the summer. These two players give Henrik Pedersen a considerable upgrade in attack, as they seek to ensure that their stay in League One is as brief as possible.
